Weekend Reads Update 5/29/25

We have Saturdays and Sundays where we do not have an available Locum to do the Weekend Reads (SMC RDS LM WH) rotation. Historically, when this occurred, we would ask for volunteers from the department to staff this weekend rotation (described below). If we did not get a volunteer, we would assign this rotation based on a "draft" where those who had not done the rotation recently (e.g. in years) would be assigned.

As discussed at the huddle a few weeks ago, we are taking a different approach as it is clear that the department does not want additional weekend assignments (we've already added an additional CT 1 weekend assignment). Here is the approach we'll trial when no Locum is available:

Ask for volunteers for anyone interested. If no volunteers, Rads can read what STAT CR (inpatients prioritized) they can on Sat and/or Sun (same goes for Holidays) and submit for extra compensation or request credit from the file room for the upcoming week (e.g. 30, 45 or 90 CR). Regional Call 1 and 2 Rads can read STAT CR before their shift hours begin and submit for extra compensation

Here is a link where you can see which shifts are currently covered/uncovered.

Here is the description of the SMC RDS LM WH rotation:

Weekend Reads (SMC RDS LM WH) The rotation is 2.25 W. It can be done remotely. You read a total of 180 CR. Usually, ~90 CR are STAT inpatient plain films read that need to be read that morning. If done in-house (SMC), for each fluoro case, the file room can subtract 4 CR for Tech-performed MBSS and 10 CR for other fluoro procedures.

"Inpatient" STAT CR films can be requested from the file room or using the PACS filter "Study Patient Class".
